MORE IDIOMS

Here some more common  idioms to practice. Remember that when speaking one of the most important things is to know the meaning of many expressions according to a specific context.

used to (something):  accustomed to something

"My friend is not used to living in such a big city."

take place :- to happen, to occur

"The soccer game took place on the coldest day of the year. "

take out (something) or take (something) out: - to remove something from somewhere


"The teacher told us to take out our books." 
"I took out some onions from the refridgerator."


right away:  immediately

"I forgot my book at home but I will go and get it right away."

IF CLAUSE II (11°)

If clauses are used to talk about unreal situations. If clause is callled "condition" and the other part is called "result".

In Conditional II, If clause is used with the present simple form of the verb and the result is in future tense with "will".



Look at the list of situations and write or complete one of these ideas as a comment. Use the Conditional.

ARTICLES

English language have three articles. Each one has a dfferent use depending of if what you are talking about  is definite or indefinted.

Use A  or AN, to refer things that are not specIfic, it is to say, in general.

A car--- refers to any car

Use THE, to refer things that are known by the speaker or that have been mentioned. It is used for both male and female, singular and plural.

The car --- refers to a specific car

IN PAIRS: Choose a place or a special event you have to go and write a short conversation in which you ask about what to wear for it. (Remember to use the expressions on lesson 2A)

A: Are you crazy? I tryed it on yesterday. It doesn´t look good anymore.

WHAT'S A SLANG?

As we have seen, in English we can find some expressions used in informal contexts. There are another kind which are so popular as idioms are: Slangs. A slang is a word or expression used in determined social settings and they are not considered standard for everyone´s speaking.

Slangs are used more specificly inside regions or groups and their meaning depends on the original familiar context given by the user.
